I have designed the puzzle pages so
that both grids and clues appear in a decent size on screen and on paper. I am aware that the downside of this is that the
crosswords need two sheets of paper when you print them. If you want to accommodate the puzzles on a single sheet, do the
following (works for Internet Explorer 7):
Click on the "Print" icon and print
the document.
You should have the puzzle printed on a single page. If the puzzle has a lot of clues you may need to
shrink to 70%. Note: this is impractical for the Jumbo puzzles, which would require shrinking to a ridiculously small
size.
How do I save these puzzles?
To save a page from this site onto your computer, do as follows
(for Internet Explorer 7):
Click on the "File" menu
Select "Save As..."
Give the page
a name in the "File Name" box
Select how you want to save the file: either as a single page (web archive) or
complete web page (this saves as an HTML page and an associated folder)
Click on "Save"
Will there ever be any interactive puzzles? I have no plans to introduce such a feature at present.
I believe that crosswords are far more fun as a pen and paper exercise!
Can I use these puzzles in my magazine? See
separate articleWhy is the address in the address bar always the same for every page?
That depends how you reached
this site. If you reached it via the site's actual web address, http://neilshepherd.pages.web.com, you will see the address
of each page displayed in the address bar. If you got here via the easier to remember domain name www.freecrosswords.net you
will notice that this remains unchanged in the address bar when you navigate around. This shouldn't be a problem most
of the time but it does mean that if you try to save, send or refresh different pages from the site you will
most likely get the home page. I won't bore you with the technical reasons for this, but to get round this issue,
click here. You will be returned to this page with the address visible and the aforementioned restrictions removed.
